Lotus photo contest kicks off

Vietnam’s Cultural Heritage Association and Vietnam News Agency on August 9th launched photo contest “Lotus in Vietnam’s culture” in Hanoi, reports Sai Gon Giai Phong. 

To Vietnamese people, the lotus represents elegance, purity and a strong vital force of the nation. Thus, it is an internal inspiration for poets and artists. Especially, the lotus plays an important position in Buddhism.

The photo contest aims to honor the flower which is the strong favorite to be named Vietnam’s national flower and is among activities towards Vietnam’s Heritage Day (November 23rd). 

The contest is open for entries from Wednesday until October 30th. The top 100 works are expected to be exhibited at the Temple of Literature in Ha Noi on November 22nd. 

All proceeds from the exhibition will be given to charity funds to help disadvantaged children in hospitals. Artists can send a single photo, a group of photos or photo essays but editing using photoshop is forbidden.

There is one first prize worth VND10 million, two second prizes worth VND7 million each, three third prizes worth VND5 million each and five consolation prizes worth VND2 million each.
